The New Neutral for Fall? Camo. đ
Fall nail trends, bag charms, and living on a cruise ship.
Itâs been a busy last couple of weeks. Sarah celebrated her birthday yesterday with an insanely delicious meal at Omakase Room by Mitsu. Highly recommend. Meanwhile, Kristin visited Sarah in NYC for a best friend get-together filled with cute Nuuly outfits, bagels and Mary Kate and Ashley movies. Then, we tried out a guided sauna and cold plunge session at the newly opened Othership. The heat was a lot, but we survived and are stronger for it. Hereâs a free link we got from a friend if you wanna give it a go.
And we filmed some cute content.
Everyoneâs Trying to Blend In: Camo for Fall. Camo is having a moment this fall, signaling a shift in fashion thatâs less about high-end coastal vibes and more about embracing every day, ânormieâ style. This trend has been creeping into the mainstream for a few years now: queue the country cosplay at the cowgirl-themed bachelorette parties and festival wear. From Prada and Supreme to Abercrombie & Fitch and Skims, camo prints are popping up everywhere for fall. The revival is highlighted by pieces like the Harris/Walz campaignâs viral sold-out camo hat. However, this trend isnât about making a loud political statement. Per Emily Sundberg, âItâs like some rejection of wokeness without being controversial or having to form/take an actual stance.â Itâs clear that this trend is about down-to-earth practicality with low-key identity expression. -K
I was skimming Pinterestâs Fall 2024 Trend Report and noticed that searches for âcamouflage outfitsâ have skyrocketed by 2,295% since last year. While Iâm not sure if Iâll add camo to my closet (itâs not exactly my style), I can see why itâs the perfect trend to carry us into fall. -S
Hardwareâs Shift: From DIY Giants to Luxe Locals. Loweâs posted a 5% dip in quarterly revenue, with profits slipping 11%. Home Depot isnât faring much better, slashing its annual sales forecast after seeing a 6% drop in big-ticket (over $1K) transactions. It feels like the DIY boom that defined the pandemic is losing steam. But on my six-block walk through Manhattan, Iâve noticed two new hardware stores popping up. One, called Locavore, is anything but your typical nuts-and-bolts shop. Itâs selling $268 hair pins alongside $64 fireplace broomsâthink hardware meets high art. As big-box giants stumble, are we seeing a shift towards luxury hardware and local treasures, or is this the next phase of home improvement? -S
Charmed, Iâm Sure. Accessorizing is being taken to the next level, with the fashion girlies adding knickknack-style keychains to their luxury bags. Think beaded bracelets, Tamagotchis, hair clips and vintage scarves, as TikTokers call it, âJane Birkinifying their bag. First, we decorate our phones, then our Sambas and now our bags. This fall is turning out to be more maximalist than we thought. -KÂ
Fall Nail Predictions: From Timeless to Metallic. With temps dropping this week in the city, Iâm officially wrapping my head around the end of summer and gearing up for fallâstarting with my nails. I see them as an extension of my look, so Iâm already eyeing colors to make my color selection process less stressful. This fall, itâs all about mood. Think classic red and black cherry. For something bolder? Jewel tones like emerald green and navy blue are fun. And donât sleep on the finishes: matte and metallic finishes are back, giving a fresh twist to your solid shades. -S
Virgo Szn is Here. Speaking of birthdays, happy birthday to our Virgos. Kristin and Sarah are both Virgo moons, hence the perfectionism. This season lasts from August 23-September 22. It's all about practicality, organization, and attention to detail. This is a time to get things in order, focus on self-improvement, and tackle projects that require precision and planning. Virgo energy encourages you to declutter physically and mentally, set healthy routines, and prioritize well-being. It's a season for being productive, refining your goals, and bringing structure to your life while staying grounded in the present. Expect an emphasis on health, efficiency, and taking a more analytical approach to challenges. -K
Couples Are Saving Their Sleep with the Scandinavian Sleep Method. Scandinavians are known for being some of the happiest people on earth, and honestly, I want all their secrets. Whether itâs the clean air, balanced lifestyle, or cozy interiors, they seem to be living their best livesâand it turns out, their sleep game is top-tier, too. Enter: the Scandinavian Sleep Method. Couples still share a queen or king-sized bed, but each person gets their own twin-sized comforter. This setup reduces sleep disturbances and keeps each personâs temperature perfectly regulated. The result? Better sleep quality without sacrificing those cozy couple vibes. -K
For Just $2.4M, You Can Literally Buy an Apartment on a Cruise Ship. For those who love to travel all the time, this just might be the solution. You can now buy your own luxury apartment on The World, a residential cruise ship where owners sail full-time in privately owned apartments. Some people hop on and off in different locations, while others spend the majority of their year onboard. This floating community has everything from restaurants and pools to a library, post office, and even a school. With destinations like Antarctica, French Polynesia, Easter Island and the Amalfi Coast, it sounds like the ultimate way to see the world from your home. -K
The Trend Cycle: From Timeless to Flash (In The Pan). At FIT, we were taught about the traditional 25 to 30-year trend cycle, where shifts in fashion and culture evolved gradually. Social media, especially TikTok, has shattered that model, turning trend cycles into rapid-fire phenomena. I know we talk a lot about âwhatâs trending on TikTok,â but here's a thought: Try to work these trends into your outfit by pulling from what you already have or thrifting pieces vs. buying the look, especially from fast fashion sites. Trust me, saving your money and investing in outfits that resonate with you will be far more satisfying than constantly throwing your cash at every new TikTok trend. -S
What We're Wearing

Kristin: Revolve Swim Cover Up. I saw this in a Vogue article and for $65 from Revolve? It looks expensive, itâs made of cotton, and itâs the perfect versatile piece to bring to Tulum for a beach wedding this fall.
Sarah: I rented this Simon Miller dress with Nuuly for a birthday dinner last week, and Iâve already worn it twice since. Itâs the softest knit in the perfect butter yellow.
What We're Buying

Kristin: Speaking of charming up our bags and phones, Iâm loving my Ossa phone case
Sarah: I have four close friends with birthdays in August and September, so I picked up a few of these Madison + Green aromatherapy pots from C.O. Bigelow.
What We're Reading

Kristin: Outlive is one Iâve been working on for a while. Itâs really interesting but definitely a scientific read, and itâs one I pick up and put down for periods of time.
Sarah: I just picked up Look in the Mirror by Catherine Steadman from the library. The story follows Nina, who inherits a surprise vacation home in the British Virgin Islands, and Maria, a nanny whose forbidden trip to the basement of her employer's mansion reveals something unthinkable.

I absolutely had camo pants back in the day but unlikely theyâll make a reappearance to my wardrobe - but on that note, absolutely here for shopping trends via vintage stores and not fast fashion. Thereâs already too much clothing waste out there!
